The New Durban Stadium in South Africa for which a
number of custom-made stainless steel clamps and
methods of rigging were developed.
Durban Stadium, South Africa, was completed for the soccer World Cup.
Whitten Oval, located in the Melbourne suburb of
Footscray, was formerly an official AFL stadium that
could seat 25,000 supporters of the Western Bulldogs
Football Club. The redeveloped Whitten Oval remains
the Bulldogs’ training base and administrative
headquarters and also serves as a mixed-use space
for medical facilities, a function centre, community
office space and associated parking and parkland
areas. Ronstan Tensile Architecture contributed to the
redevelopment by creating and installing a cable net
façade feature for the new entrance to the oval

Custom-made technical solutions for
the Durban Stadium.
Of all Ronstan’s recent installations none demonstrates
the benefits of cable stayed construction quite like
Bellevue Bridge in Washington DC. The application of
lightweight and spidery “tree like” canopy supports
accentuate the minimalist cable-stayed design.
The efficiency of the cables, the “lightness” and
translucence of the canopy, and the slender lines of the
masts and deck, all combine in a structure of unique
elegance and function.
Washington’s Bellevue Bridge (shown
here and right) epitomises the lightweight
appeal of Ronstan’s cable-stayed designs.
