The Gateway Bridge project.
In addition to conventionally cut and bent reinforcing
steel, ARC supplied:
n 390 tonnes of “rollmat” for the bridge decks on the
northern motorway structures.
n 3550 tonnes of high tolerance (+0, -5mm)
reinforcing bars for the precast concrete requirements.
ARC produced this very high quality product for Super-
T bridge beams, bridge deck units, octagonal precast
piles, noise barriers and various other precast products.
n 631 tonnes of prefabricated (welded) cages. This
was supplied as pile cages, pile cap cages, column and
pier cages, and concrete barrier cages for both bridge
parapets and roads.
n 62 tonnes of specially manufactured ductile mesh for
the pedestrian path on the eastern side of the main bridge.
Mobile lift pit
At Brisbane Domestic Airport , the builder faced a major
problem when it came to the construction of the lift over-run
pit in the Common User Satellite because the base of the pit
would be 300mm below the high tide mark.
To overcome this the lift pit was formed and poured
at a casting area within the airport grounds. When the
concrete had cured sufficiently to lift, the unit was placed
on a preformed sheet of Wolfin IB membrane that had been
covered with 5 mm Projex Shockmat to avoid damage to the
membrane when the pit was placed onto it.
When the pit was in place on the Wolfin membrane, the outer
face of the walls were lined with Wolfin GWSK and the two
Wolfin materials were married together. The “bagged” pre-cast
lift pit was then placed onto a heavy duty trailer and hoisted into
place at low tide with the use of a 200 tonne crane.
